Sound Gateway

Sound Gateway is a multi-media sculpture (wood, electronics, microcontrollers, sensors, light, paint, canvas) transformed into a digital synthesizer using Arduino technology. This avant-garde creation emulates the ethereal, granular sounds of a lo-fi analog synth, creating a multisensory experience for the audience.

Set against a canvas that transports viewers to the brink of an alternate dimension, the painting serves as a portal where cascading blue fluid, represented by acrylic paint, spills out. This dynamic visual complements the synesthetic richness of the sculpture, inviting audiences to explore the intersection of sound and dimensionality.

What sets ‘Sound Gateway’ apart is the intervention of optical fiber blue light seamlessly woven into the canvas. This unique addition elevates the piece, creating an ethereal luminosity.

This installation requires an electrical energy outlet, as it breathes life into its surroundings with entrancing sounds. Audience participation is not only encouraged but integral to the experience—immersing themselves in the interactive elements of the sculpture, visitors become active contributors to the harmonious convergence of art and technology.

‘Sound Gateway’ is more than an art piece; it’s a dynamic fusion of craftsmanship, technology, and imagination. It beckons viewers to transcend the ordinary and engage with the extraordinary, making it a compelling and unique addition to the SOUNDPARKS art exhibition.

Sound Gateway’ stands as an artistic invitation to transcend our everyday reality and enter another dimension, an inner realm guided by the transformative power of sound. The piece embodies a fusion of materials, employing reusable microcontrollers, light, wood, and electricity, transforming it into a multimedia, multi-dimensional art piece. The intricate combination of these elements creates a sensory experience that extends beyond the visual, engaging the audience in a profound exploration of the auditory and spatial dimensions.

The inspiration behind ‘Sound Gateway’ is deeply rooted in the artist’s vision to bridge the gap between the tangible and the ethereal, using technology as a conduit. The piece serves as a sonic portal, inviting viewers to immerse themselves in an alternate reality shaped by the interplay of light, sound, and physical materials.

Originally exhibited at Generator Space by Amplify Arts, ‘Sound Gateway’ was showcased as a grant recipient for the Mindspace & Cognitive Universes Collective Exhibition in November of 2023. This exhibition provided a unique opportunity for the audience to experience the piece firsthand, delving into the intricate layers of sensory exploration curated by the artist. As the exhibition catalyzed the initial unveiling of ‘Sound Gateway,’ future showcases promise to captivate new audiences and continue the journey of inviting individuals to venture beyond the boundaries of our conventional reality.

Stay tuned for upcoming exhibitions to witness ‘Sound Gateway’ in person.
