This workshop delves into the essence of sound synthesis, exploring fundamental concepts, terminology, and the rich history of sound art. Active participation is encouraged with hands-on experiences like soldering, circuit assembly, and synthesizer building. Participants will engage in one collaborative sound art performance and present personally crafted synthesizers during the Benson First Friday art walk.

Dylan Barry will instruct classes with additional facilitation from Sener.

Class Schedule:
  • Friday, June, 14th 6:00 – 8:00 pm
  • Friday, June, 21st 6:00 – 8:00 pm
  • Friday, June, 28th  6:00 – 8:00 pm

Curriculum:

  • Week 1 – Concepts and Introduction – Safety Rules – Overview of Electronic Analog Synthesis. – Introduction to essential concepts and terminology. – Brief history of sound art in electronic synthesis.
  • Week 2 – Putting Together Parts & Soldering – Exploration of fundamental connections. – Discussion on the importance of component placement. – Explanation of the specific circuit that will be built, breaking it down using the essentials of analog electronics from class 1. – Hands-on session assembling & In-depth guidance on soldering techniques & basic components.
  • Week 3 – Completion of synthesizers and Final Steps – Final assembly and testing. – Troubleshooting common issues. – Preparation for the culminating workshop during the First Friday art walk.
