🇲🇽 Ofrenda Comunitaria 2025 — Omaha
Por tercer año consecutivo, activamos esta ofrenda comunitaria en Omaha como parte de las actividades culturales de BFF Omaha Inc., en colaboración con SoundArte.net y Giant Joy Collective.
Nos reunimos este viernes 7 de noviembre a las 9:30 PM en 2725 N 62nd St, Benson, Omaha para un acto público y abierto de continuidad ancestral y presencia viva.
Se interpretarán cuatro huapangos tradicionales mexicanos (entre 70 y 100 años de antigüedad), música original del territorio mexicano. La primera pieza será interpretada junto al músico invitado Conor Luedtke en banjo.
Durante la ofrenda estarán presentes:
— Creada por José Guadalupe Posada y difundida al mundo por Diego Rivera, La Catrina, interpretada esta noche por Melyn Marie, directora de Giant Joy Collective, representa a la muerte que nos hace iguales a todos, equivalente al Grim Reaper en Estados Unidos. Su raíz proviene de una memoria viva que atraviesa la Santa Muerte y a su vez Mictlantecuhtli, guardián ancestral del inframundo en la tradición mexicana.
—La Llorona es el eco antiguo de las madres que, frente a la invasión, eligieron proteger el alma de sus hijos antes que entregarlos al poder. Su llanto es amor que se niega a desaparecer. Interpretada por la artista de danza contemporánea Erin Brandt.
Este es un acto público y comunitario. Se invita a las personas a traer una fotografía de un ser querido para colocar antes de que inicie la música.
No es espectáculo. No es entretenimiento. Es continuidad & presencia.

🇺🇸 Community Ofrenda 2025 — Omaha
For the third consecutive year, we activate this community ofrenda in Omaha as part of the cultural programming of BFF Omaha Inc., in collaboration with SoundArte.net and Giant Joy Collective.
We gather this Friday, November 7 at 9:30 PM at 2725 N 62nd St, Benson, Omaha, for a public and open act of ancestral continuity and living presence.
Four traditional Mexican huapangos (70–100 years old, oral tradition) will be performed live. The opening piece will feature guest musician Conor Luedtke on banjo.
The ofrenda will include the living presence of:
— Created by José Guadalupe Posada and later brought to the world by Diego Rivera, La Catrina — performed tonight by Melyn Marie, director of Giant Joy Collective — represents death as the force that makes all humans equal, equivalent to the Grim Reaper in the United States. Her lineage comes from a living memory that passes through Santa Muerte and further back to Mictlantecuhtli, ancestral guardian of the underworld in Mexican tradition.
— La Llorona is the ancient echo of the mothers who, in the face of invasion, chose to protect the soul of their children rather than surrender them to power. Her cry is love that refuses to disappear. Performed by contemporary dance artist Erin Brandt.
This is a public and community gathering. You may bring a photograph of a loved one to place before the music begins.
Not a show. Not entertainment. It is continuity & presence.
